Description

Dezzani Nebbiolo Langhe DOC is an Italian red wine from the Piedmont region. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo Grapes. This is a fresh and fragrant style of red wine.

Cantina Dezzani is an Italian winery with a rich history dating back to 1934. It is located in Cocconato, in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, an area renowned for its winemaking traditions and high-quality wines. The winery was founded by Luigi Dezzani, and over the decades, it has grown into a significant producer of fine wines, combining traditional methods with modern techniques.

Dezzani achieved massive success 1970s and 80s when Luigi handed the company over to his son Romulo. Romulo developed the wine into a brand that was well-known throughout Italy. The third generation is represented by winemaker Luigi Jr. Today the company is owned by the Rocca family who, themselves have been in the wine world for five generations, and the Villa Rivalta co-operative, comprising hundreds of families from Monferrato and Langhe united in cooperative form, with about 1,000 hectares of vineyards.

The winery is located at 491 metres above sea level and is surrounded by plantings of traditional grapes varieties such as Nebbiolo, Barbera and Albarossa as well as Cabernet and Syrah. The company produces and bottles over 40 different labels, including DOC and DOCG wines, all sourced from some of the most prestigious vineyards in the Piedmont wine-growing region.  Wines include Barbaresco, Barbera d’Asti, Barolo et al.

The grapes for the Dezzani Nebbiolo Langhe DOC come from the prestigious hills of Langhe. After a manual harvesting of the Nebbiolo grapes, vinification takes place at controlled temperatures with about 15 days maceration on skins and subsequent malolactic fermentation. The wine is then matured in traditional fifty hectolitre oak casks, for 18-24 months before bottling and release.

Why is it called the Nebbiolo grape?

The Nebbiolo grape takes its name from the Italian word “nebbia,” which means fog. Nebbiolo is typically harvested in late October, a time when the vineyards in Piedmont, particularly in the Langhe and Roero regions, are often blanketed in thick morning fog. This climatic feature is a hallmark of the region and is closely associated with the grape’s name.
