Domaine Jones Vineyard Collection Syrah by Katie Jones is a bold, expressive French red wine from the rugged hills of Languedoc. It is made from Jones’ coveted old Syrah vines and forms part of the Vineyard Collection range of estate wines, which also includes Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris and Carignan.
Premium Languedoc Terroir: 100% Syrah, crafted from two small, sustainably managed vineyards, La Caune and St Roch, located in the rugged landscape between Tuchan and Paziols in the Languedoc wine region.
Complex Soil Profile: The vines thrive in a distinct blend of limestone, clay and schist soils, which are farmed following strict organic practices to ensure pure fruit expression.
Dual-Altitude Blend: This French red wine balances two distinct microclimates. The higher vineyard sits at 350 metres altitude to provide crisp freshness and acidity, while the lower valley site delivers rich fruit concentration and depth.
Old Vine Syrah: Produced from vines averaging 45 years of age, making them some of the oldest Syrah vines in the Tuchan area, contributing to the wine’s remarkable structure and complexity.
Domaine Jones is owned and run by Katie Jones. Katie was the Sales and Marketing Director for the Mont Tauch co-operative in the Languedoc-Roussillon for nearly twenty years until she fell in love with a small 3.5 hectare vineyard in the Maury Valley in 2007. Katie acquired the vineyard, called La Sanayre Est, in 2008.
Since then, Katie has quietly been collecting neglected, low-yielding, old vine vineyards around the village of Tuchan. She has plantings of all sorts of grape varieties, including Grenache Gris, Carignac Gris, Muscat, Macabeu for the white wines and Grenache Noir, Syrah, Carignan and Lledoner Pelut A.K.A. Hairy Grenache.
The wine-making philosophy at Domaine Jones is to employ traditional, down-to-earth farming methods and innovative winemaking techniques to capture the characteristics of the terroir and the local area. The wines are only produced in tiny quantities, in some cases, the odd barrel or two; this truly is boutique wine-making. Katie’s wines have a surprising purity and freshness, due to the relatively high altitude of the vineyards, which is unusual for wines from this area.
