Notes – Bodegas San José was founded as a cooperative, by local farmers, in 1947 who wanted somewhere to make good wines with the quality grapes being grown in the Jumilla area. Now there are more than 500 members of the cooperative which has invested in the most up to date wine-producing facilities. The climate of the area is continental, influenced by its proximity to the Mediterranean to the east and La Mancha plateau on the west. It is a sunny and dry climate, with some 3,000 hours of sun a year and scant rains some 300 litres per square metre a year. The soil has a large capacity for water retention and medium permeability. This permits the vineyards to subsist under lengthy drought conditions, making the most of the available water. The vineyards are located between 500 and 800 metres above sea level. 100% Syrah produced exclusively form the Bodega’s best Syrah grapes. Intense cherry-red colour with violet tones. It has an elegant aroma of wild fruit. On the palate it is lively, full-bodied, rnwith deep flavours and very well structured. A red wine with a long finish.
