Description

Don Manuel Villafane Malbec Reserva is a red wine from the Mendoza wine growing region of Argentina. Dom Manuel Villafane came to Argentina from Spain as a soldier in 1611. Later he settled as a farmer and was one of the first people to plant vines in the territory. Don Manuel Villafane is owned his direct ancestor Tomas Machado Villafane and his family and was founded in 2002. The estate comprises some 80 hectares of vineyards split into two vineyards: the 50 hectare Finca Don Manuel Estate and the 30 hectare Cahuin Estate, both in the Maipu department of Mendoza. The vineyards are planted with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Chardonnay.

The grapes for the Don Manuel Villafane Malbec Reserva are harvested by hand into 16kg crates in the early dawn to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery cool and in the best condition. It is 100% Malbec from the vineyards located at 975m above sea level at the base of the Andes mountains at Finca Pedriel, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. For the reserva wines only the free-run juice was used and there is a period of maceration before and after fermentation. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak. Winemaker is Frederico Isgrò.
