VILLA by Errazuriz is a premium Chilean Bordeaux-style blend from Chile’s renowned Aconcagua Valley.
Previously known as Errázuriz Villa Don Maximiano, this wine serves as the second wine of the iconic Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve. It pays homage to the historic Villa Errázuriz, the elegant residence built by the winery’s founder, Don Maximiano Errázuriz, in 1870.
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Malbec, and it is crafted with a “Bordeaux heart elevated by a Mediterranean soul”. A wine of balance, freshness, and finesse.
The grapes for the Errazuriz VILLA by Errazuriz come from vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley, which extend from the MAX I vineyard and follow the Aconcagua River to the west. The vineyards have an enormous diversity of soil types, ranging from weathered intrusive igneous rock to deep coarse-grained alluvial soils with excellent drainage.
Grape varieties planted include Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, among others, and the vines have an average age of 30 years. The vines are planted on hillsides up to 60 metres above sea level, 50–70 km from the Pacific Ocean on the southern bank of the Aconcagua River.
The region has an extended dry season, with moderately warm summer days, cooled by the gentle nightly breezes that enter the valley from the sea.
The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (35% new), enhancing structure and complexity. Small portions of the blend are matured in concrete egg (5%) and large foudre casks (5%), helping preserve freshness and balance.
Founded in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, Errázuriz is one of Chile’s most historic family-owned wineries. The estate was established by Don Maximiano Errázuriz, who recognised the exceptional potential of the Aconcagua Valley for producing premium wines.
Today, the winery is led by Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation of the founding family. Under his leadership, Errázuriz has gained international recognition for producing world-class Chilean wines, combining traditional vineyard heritage with modern winemaking techniques.
The estate’s vineyards benefit from the valley’s Mediterranean climate and cooling Pacific breezes, producing wines known for structure, freshness, and elegance. Wines such as VILLA by Errazuriz reflect the winery’s commitment to quality and the unique character of the Aconcagua Valley.
“VILLA by Errazuriz 2022 vintage has a bright ruby red colour with violet sparkles. The nose offers aromas of fresh rose petals, pomegranate, strawberry and raspberry together with soft notes of tobacco and cinnamon. Flavours of fresh red fruits, dominated by raspberry and pomegranate, emerge in the mouth. The palate unveils a texture reminiscent of chalk, with delicate tannins, framed by an excellent acidity that accentuates the wine’s vertical and fresh character together with an excellent persistence.”
Tomás Muñoz, Chief Winemaker
VILLA by Errazuriz pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, ribeye steak, slow-braised beef, and roasted vegetables. It would also be great for a Sunday roast or Beef Wellington.
The wine’s structure and dark fruit flavours also complement hard cheeses such as Comté and aged Cheddar.
