Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro is a red wine from the Campania region. It is a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso grapes and is bottled as a Roccamonfina IGT. Roccamonfina is one of several IGTs in the Campania region and is named after the ancient Roccamonfina volcano.
Galardi was founded in 1991 by Dora and Maria Luisa together with Arturo, Roberto and Francesco with the premise of producing high quality wines whilst reviving the ancient traditions of Campania’s noble grape varieties such as Aglianico and Piedirossa. The volcanic soils and vineyards which gently slope towards the sea allow winemaker Riccardo Cotarella is make the very best wines from these local grape varieties.
Galardi Terra di Lavoro 2008 is a blend of Aglianico 80%, and Piedirosso 20% made with grapes sourced from a small 10 hectare vineyard at San Carlo di Sessa Aurunca located at an altitude of 40m above sea level. After harvest the grapes were macerated on the skins for 20 and underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine was matured for 12 months in a combination of new Allier and Never oak barriques.
The map on the front label of Terra di Lavoro is an ancient map of the 18th century that shows the area of southern Italy during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies which was called “Terra di Lavoro”.
