Domaine Georges Lignier Gevrey Chambertin comes from south-facing parcels of Pinot Noir vines located at the southern entrance to Gevrey Chambertin where Domaine Lignier own 2.28 hectares of vines.

Domaine Lignier was established at the beginning of the 20th century has remained family-owned ever since. Georges Lignier (cousin of Hubert Lignier) set out to make the best and most important domaine in Morey Saint Denis. The estate has since passed though his son and grandson, Bernard and Georges, and, most recently, Georges’ nephew Benoit Stehly arrived at the property in 2002 after having completing his oenology exams. The estate now comprises some 16 hectares of vineyards spread over 17 appellation. Most of the vines now have an average age of at least 50 years.

The grapes for Domaine Lignier Gevrey Chambertin are manually harvested, sorted by hand and destemmed prior to vinification. The wine is vinified traditionally with grapes undergoing 4 to 5 day pre-fermentation maceration in big, open wooden vats. The grapes are then crushed and the wine is fermented for 15 to 18 days prior to being aged in oak barrels (228 litres, 30% new) for 18 months. Bottled without fermentation.
