Grant Burge Balthasar Shiraz is one of Grant Burges Wines of Distinction and is based on the elegance of renowned red wines from the Northern Rhone like Cote Rotie which often has a small amount of Viognier added to the blend. With this wine Grant is looking to produce a wine typical of the Eden Valley (located in the Barossa) using some European winemaking techniques to further enhance the versatility of the Eden Valley Valley Shiraz. The 2010 Grant Burge Balthasar is 100% Shiraz sourced only from the Eden Valley which is a key component of many Barossa blends. Grant Burge Balthasar Shiraz wine showcases the elegant varietal characteristics from this unique region After pressing, the wine was filled to French oak, with approximately 60% of the blend in new French oak hogsheads, 20% into a new 2500ltr French oak vat and the balance was filled into 2 year old French oak hogsheads. Further to this, the wine was left on fine lees for approximately 6 months, before the wine was racked, the barrels cleaned, and the wine returned tot he same oak barrels for a further 9 months maturation.
