KTW Iveria Mukuzani is a dry red wine from Georgia. It is produced from grapes in the greater Kakheti region, more specifically from the Mukuzani district. It is 100% Saperavi.
Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking (KWT) is one of the largest wine and spirit producing companies in Georgia and the Caucasus region. The company was founded in 2001 and aims to preserve the history and traditional techniques (the use of earthenware amphora, called qvevri) of Georgian wine-making whilst also merging them with modern winemaking and innovation. KTW works with over 50 different indigenous grape varieties comprising 600 hectares of vineyards located in many different wine-growing regions of Georgia and produces many styles of wine including white, red and the famous semi-sweet red styles. Often regarded as “the birthplace of wine”, Georgia has over 500 native grape varieties.
Saperavi is probably the most famous, and most important red grape variety in Georgia and it used to make many varying styles of red wines from light and fruity through to heavier dark reds. It is a “teinturier” grape, that is a red skinned grape which also has red flesh. This is actually quite rare amongst red skinned grapes and Saperavi, along with Alicante Bouschet, are probably the two of the most famous. Indeed, Saperavi means “dye” in Georgian, alluding to the dark coloured wines it can produce.
KTW Iveria Mukuzani is made from 100% Saperavi grapes sourced from the Mukuzani micro-zone. between 350 and 600 metres above sea level. The wine is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 9 months.
KTW Iveria Mukuzani has a bright raspberry colour. The aromas and flavours are dominated by red cherry, floral hints and a touch of oak. A medium bodied red wine with good length.
Perfect with red meats, steaks, bbq and mutton.
