Description

Notes – The Château , built at at the end of the 18 th century, for a long time owned by an old Bordeaux family related to the Montaigne family, was partly rebuilt by Francois de Belcier, a counter revolutionary guillotined in 1794. The classic style château with its triangular ornamental facades looks out over the rolling contryside of the commune of Les Salles de Castillon, with its alternating landscape of woods and vineyard. Now owned by the MACIF insurance compagny, the château has been returned to all its former splendour. Chateau de Belcier is a 52 hectare estate and neighbours St Emilion. The grape varieties planted are 57% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Malbec and the average age of the vines is nearly 40 years. Le Pin de Belcier is the Chateau’s special reserve wine and only 5000 bottles are produced. It is a blend of 80 % Merlot and 20 % Cabernet-Franc and is aged in 100% new oak barrels.
