Description

Bodegas Numanthia Termanthia is the flagship wine of this LVMH owned wine estate located in the Toro wine-grwoing appellation of Spain.

Bodegas Numanthia estate lies near the small village of Valdefinjas, in the province of Zamora. The estate was founded in 1998 by the Eguren family, from the Rioja region. From the start, the aim of Marcos and Miguel Eguren was to produce the best wine from Toro. Bodegas Numanthia owns 49 hectares of vines in the communes of Valdefinjas and Toro. Of these, 20 hectares are planted with vines aged between 70 and 100 years old, and there is another exceptional plot of 4.8 hectares, on the commune of Argujillo, whose vines were planted over 120 years ago.

The award winning Termanthia is the ultimate expression of the best of vineyard plots in Toro with vines that over 120 years old and at an altitude of 800 meters. The hyper-concentrated fruit produces considerable aromatic complexity and shows tremendous power on the palate with plenty of fleshy roundness and as much elegance and precision as it does intensity. This is a wine that will keep very well, gaining even more complexity in bottle.

Grapes for Termanthia are sourced from Numanthia’s “Teso de los carriles” vineyard situated in Argujillo. The grapes are hand-harvested into small boxes with rigorous selection of the fruit, hand selection at the winery where they are destemmed by hand with selection of every grape, berry by berry. The grapes undergo a cold pre-fermentative maceration for 5 days. After pressing the wine is fermented in French oak vats of 20 hectoliters and in 5 oak barrels of 5 hectoliters. Twice a day during the 10 day fermentation process the wine undergoes “Pisado”, i.e the cap is plunged down. This is followed by extended maceration on skins for 14 days and malolactic fermentation in 100% new French oak Bordelaise barrels. Finally the wine is aged for 20 months in second fill French oak barrels and is racked every 4 months.

100% Tinta de Toro.
