Paloma Minguez Bobal is an organic red wine produced in DO Valencia located near Spain’s eastern coast. The grapes are sourced from the “El Ardal” plot located in Camporrobles which is located some 75 kilometres inland from the town of Valencia itself.
Viticulturalist and oenologist Manuel Manzaneque Suarez followed his father into the wine business. His father founded a wine estate called Finca Elez which was one of the very first single estate wineries in Spain to be given its own DO, DO Finca Elez. Manuel studied Viticulture and Oenology at Montpellier SupAgro in France and went on to work harvests in the South of France, Spain and Bordeaux. Eventually Manuel went on to be technical director of the family estate at El Bonillo, a job he did for 10 years.
In 2011 Manuel started his own wine project and in 2012 he left the family firm to concentrate solely on EA Vinos. The idea behind EA Vinos is to concentrate on indigenous grape varieties and to demonstrate that high quality wines can be in DO La Mancha. He is married to Paloma Minguez, after whom this wine is named. As well as this 100% Bobal, there is also an organic sparkling, the Paloma Minguez Cava Brut.
The “El Ardal” plot of vines from where the grapes are sourced are over 40 years old and are planted on clay-sandy soil with lots of large stones at the surface. After harvest the grapes undergo a careful selection on the winery. The grapes undergo a period of cold pre-fermentation followed by a brief alcoholic fermentation at low temperature then a post-fermentation maceration with its skins. After vinification the Paloma Minguez Bobal is aged for 6 months in French oak barrels.
Bobal is native to the Utiel-Requena region in Valencia. It is named Bobal, after the latin “Bovale” which means ‘in the shape of a bull’s head’, as the bobal bunches are said to be reminiscent of the shape of a bull’s head.
Paloma Minguez Bobal is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
