Quinta dos Roques Reserva Tinto is a multi-varietal red wine blend from one of the leading, small estates of the Dao wine-growing region. Quinta dos Roques is located just outside the village of Abrunhosa do Mato in the heart of the Dao region.
Owned by Luis and Luisa Lourenco, Quinta dos Roques is a dynamic and exciting estate, making a sometimes bewildering array of different wines. With 12 different plots totalling 40 hectares, the Roques vineyards are located at altitudes of 450 to 500m. Quinta dos Roques pioneered the idea of varietal bottling in Portugal with their 1996 wines, and were probably responsible for the Touriga Nacional gold rush which followed. Despite their fame, Roques remain a small producer, with many of their bottlings not exceeding 1000 cases.
The grapes for the Quinta dos Roques Reserva Tinto come from the old Pessegueiro vineyard. It is a typical field blend of Dao red grapes, aged in 2nd year French oak 225L barrels for 15 months and is allowed to mature sometime in bottle prior to release. A blend of Touriga Nacional 55%, Alfrocheiro 20%, Jaen 15%, Tinta Roriz 5% and Tinta Cao 5%.
This is perhaps the estate’s most famous wine, the 2011 won won the International Wine Challenge Portuguese Red Wine Trophy in 2014.
