Quinta dos Roques Reserva Touriga Nacional, first released in 1996, was one the first 100% Touriga Nacional Dao blends and is arguably responsible for the flood of single varietal Touriga Nacional wines that followed.
Now owned by Luis and Luisa Lourenco, Quinta dos Roques is a dynamic and exciting estate, making a sometimes bewildering array of different wines. Established in 1990 by Manuel Oliveira and now run the enthusiastic Luís Lourenço and his wife Luísa (Manuel’s daughter). The team is completed by cellar master João Santiago, vineyard manager Vanda, and winemaker Rui Reguinga. With 12 different plots totalling 40 hectares, the Roques vineyards are located at altitudes of 450 to 500m. Quinta dos Roques pioneered the idea of varietal bottling in Portugal with their 1996 wines, and were probably responsible for the Touriga Nacional gold rush which followed. Despite their fame, Roques remain a small producer, with many of their bottlings not exceeding 1000 cases.
Quinta dos Roques Touriga Nacional is a blend of the finest Touriga Nacional wines from the estate, including some from their famous Pessegueiro (peach tree) vineyard. It is aged for around 17 months in new French Barriques (225L).
