Description

Renato Ratti Barolo DOCG Marcenasco is a single-vineyard Barolo which was first released in 1965. Barolo Marcenasco is a smooth, balanced and elegant red wine.

The First Single Vintage Barolo

Renato Ratti, the founder of this excellent Piedemontese winery bought his first vineyard, a small plot of vineyards in Barolo located in the historical zone of Marcenasco, right below the Abbey of L’Annunziata at La Morra. He was the first producer to make a single vintage Barolo, previous to this Barolo would have been blended from various vineyard sites. It was here, in the ancient 14th century Abbey, that he created his first single vineyard wine, Marcenasco Barolo.

Family-Owned Piedmont Winery

In 1969 his nephew Massimo Martinelli, who was also an oenologist, joined the company. Together, they perfected a technique for vinifying, maturing and refining their Marcenasco Barolo, with the declared aim of obtaining the elegance, subtlety and longevity worthy of Nebbiolo’s full potential. The wine was previously labeled as “Marcenasco Barolo Antiche Cantine della Abbazia dell’Annunziata”.

Pietro, Renato’s son, took over the company in 1988. Pietro is a graduate of Alba’s renowned Oenological School and continues to expand and restore the family vineyards as well as building new cellars in Annunziata in 2002. Today, the company’s 35 hectares of vineyards are located on the hillsides of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrat regions.
