Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine made in Sonoma County, California. Rodney Strong Vineyards was founded by professional dancer Rodney Strong in 1959 who was one of the pioneers responsible for transforming Sonoma County’s reputation from that of rustic farmland into that of one of the USA’s premium wine-growing regions. Rodney Strong recognized in the late 1960s that Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley was an exceptional area for heat loving Cabernet Sauvignon. He planted their first Cabernet vineyard, Alexander’s Crown, in 1971 on a small hill in Jimtown, and the reputation for fine Sonoma County Cabernet has never looked back.
Rodney Strong Vineyards was sold to the current owner, Tom Klein, in 1989 but Strong remained on as as a consultant until retiring in 1995. Today RSV owns vineyards ranging from the northern stretches of the Alexander Valley. to the ends of the Sonoma Coast, to Sonoma County where the core of the 12 estate vineyards are located. The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from three exceptional Cabernet vineyards, from Jimtown, to Geyserville, and all the way north to Cloverdale, planted in the well-drained alluvial, volcanic, and uplifted shale/sandstone soils.
Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is aged for 16 months in 75% American oak and 25% French oak barrels.
