Tobelos Tahon de Tobelos Reserva Rioja is the flagship wine from Tobelos Bodegas y Vinedos and is a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha.
Bodegas Tobelos is a prestigious winery in Rioja which was founded in late 1999 through the hard work and vision of current manager Ricardo Reinoso. Reinoso, who has many years experience in managing wineries in the Rioja region, brought together investors from around the world who shared his same ideals and wished to create a top quality Rioja wine. Tobelos has a magnificent, minimalistic, modern winery located at Brinas, 2km from Haro, the gateway to La Rioja. There are 3 hectares of vineyards adjacent to the bodega and another 15 hectares, directly under their control, belonging to partners of the bodega. Tobelos sources their grapes from five estates: Los Quinones (planted with Viura and Tempranillo), La Encina (Garnacha and Tempranillo), Artajona (Tempranillo), El Jardin (all 14 grape varieties permitted in Rioja) and Los Canos (Graciano). Total production today stands at just over 200,000 bottles of mainly Crianza wines but also a Reserva and a new, lees-aged white. There are a total of 975 American, French and Central European oak barrels which are rotated every 4 to 5 years.
The grapes for the Tobelos Tahon de Tobelos Reserva Rioja are sourced from average 50-year-old vines from one vineyard located between the villages of Briñas and San Vicente on The soils are clay-limestone, rich in calcium, which gives the grapes a hard skin, resistant to diseases and very rich in polyphenols. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed prior to a 9 day fermentation, twice daily pumping over but this time with a maceration period of 22 days on the skins. The wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation in new oak casks. The wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 14 months.
The wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Grenache.
