Terrazas de los Andes Malbec is 100% Malbec made from grapes sourced from select estate vineyards located in Las Compuertas (planted in 1929, this is the company’s oldest and most prestigious parcel), Paraje Altamira and Uco Valley. This is Terrazas’s signature mountain Malbec wine: elegant, expressive and layered.
Terrazas de los Andes was established in 1992 by Chandon Argentina, which was itself established by Champagne Moet et Chandon as their Argentine wine project in 1960. Terrazas produces superb premium wines from some of the world’s highest vineyards. The winery has been named after the terraces situated at different altitudes upon which the vines are grown. Based on over 47 years of research and experimentation with local microclimates and terrain, each selected terrace has been matched with a unique varietal to express its maximum potential. Within these unique microclimates, Terrazas de los Andes presents a range of wines that offer great fruit concentration and varietal character.
Terrazas de los Andes Selection Malbec is created from a blend of more than 100 plots from 8
regeneratively farmed, high-altitude estate vineyards. The wine is made by blending mountain fruit from vineyards in the Uco Valley with grapes from the higher terroirs of Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo, The vineyards range in age from 20 to 80 years old and can be flood or drip-irrigated. The high altitude location of the vineyards means warm, sunny days for grapes to flourish, followed by cold nights that slow down their ripening.
The Malbec grapes are harvested early and fresh, at their peak of fruit expression and gently macerated for a period of 15-20 days to slowly and precisely extract the right tannic structure of the wine while preserving its fineness. Most of the wine is aged for one year in used French oak barrels to achieve stability, refinement and complexity. A small percentage rests as a component inside concrete vats to preserve the fresh fruit aromas and flavours.
Terrazas de los Andes is committed to sustainable viticulture practices, respecting the environment and preserving the natural resources of the region. The winery employs techniques such as organic fertilization, cover crops, and water management systems to minimize its ecological impact.
Terrazas de los Andes has an intense red colour with purple hues. The nose is fresh and intensely fruity with black and red fruit flavours like blackberry, plum and strawberry, together with typical violet and mountain spices notes of cool climate Malbec. On the palate, this Malbec is vibrant and layered, the mouthfeel is fresh and polished, with a good tension and length.
Try Terrazas de los Andes Malbec with rich red meats. Great with goat ribs with a side of black garlic and cauliflower, or a classic grilled fillet steak. It also pairs well with different kinds of pasta with tomato sauce or desserts with chocolate, red fruits and nuts.
For the cheese course, it also pairs well with a rich and nutty hard cheese, such as Manchego or Parmesan.
