Torres Sangre De Toro Reserva is a legendary Spanish red wine made by Torres in DO Cataluyna. It is principally Grenache (or Garnacha Tinta) with some Syrah. Older wine lovers may remember this wine as the Spanish wine with the little black plastic bull tied around the neck of the bottle when the wine was branded as Gran Sangre de Toro – it was rebranded as Torres Sangre De Toro Reserva with the release of the 2015 vintage.

The Torres family has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, south-west of Barcelona, since the 17th Century. It is this tradition combined with innovation, dynamism and commitment to quality that has put Torres firmly on the world map. In 2006 Torres were awarded European Winery of the Year in Wine Enthusiast’s Annual Wine Star Awards.

The Cataluyna DO was created in 2001 and covers many wineries in the Catalonia region who produce quality wines which do not fit into any other Catalonian Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP). Towards the end of the 1960s, Miguel Torres Carbó decided to produce a wine with a well defined identity and a character of its own. Straight away he started experimenting with Garnacha Tinta (60%) and its usual partner, Cariñena / Mazuelo (25%). The years passed and eventually Syrah (15%) was added. Thus, ennobled by ageing in oak, this wine was born with its intense colour and its rich and fruity aroma. Aged for 12 months in European oak (20% new oak).
