Description

Trapiche Manos Malbec is the flagship wine from Trapiche. Over the last 125 years Trapiche’s reputation has grown due to their pioneering and innovative spirit and their dedication to quality and diversity to produce the highest quality wines. They are now considered to be one of the top Argentinian wine producers and represent “the richness of diversity” in Argentina. They have over a 1000 ha of their own vineyards, taking advantage of the different soils and climates, and specialise in obtaining the best fruit from their “terroir”.

The grapes for Trapiche Manos Malbec are sourced from Finca Altamira, San Carlos in the Uco Valley, one of the best wine-growing areas for Malbec in Mendoza. Grapes are hand-harvested into small wooden crates for transport to the winery to ensure they arrive in the best condition. The grapes are then manually selected and destemmed at the winery. The grapes also undergo a process called pinching whereby the grapes are literally pinched by hand to remove the pips and pulp leaving behind only the skins for making the wine with (check out the video below). The main objective of this is to intensify colours and aromas and smoothing the wine structure. The wine is fermented and macerated in oak vats using only wild yeast. The wine undergoes “pigeage”, punching down of the cap to agitate the skins to fully, yet sotly extract the pigments, the tannins, and the aromatic compounds. After fermentation the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and a further 24 months in bottle prior to release for sale.

Trapiche Manos (Manos = Hands) is so named as a tribute to the hands of the people who work the soil, grow the grapes, work in the winery, an homage to all the people involved in the winemaking process to create this unique and special wine. Trapiche Manos has features a specially commissioned artwork for the label created by renowned Argentine silversmith Juan Carlos Pallarols.
