Wente Vineyards Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard red wine from the Livermore Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) which is in the San Francisco Bay area.

Wente Vineyards was founded by C. H. Wente, a first-generation immigrant from Germany, in 1883. Recognizing that the warm days, cool nights and gravelly soils of the Livermore Valley were ideal for growing grapes, he purchased 48 acres and planted vineyards. Continuing the 125 years legacy, the winery is managed today by the Fourth Generation of the Wente family, Eric, Philip, Carolyn, and the Fifth Generation, Christine and Karl.

The single vineyard Wente Vineyards Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon is named after one of Livermore’s most prominent pioneers, California’s first Agricultural Commissioner, who was renowned for planting vine cuttings from many of Bordeaux’s top Chateaux (including some from Margaux) in the Livermore Valley in the 1800s. The vines planted today are direct descendants from these vines and only the best of these Cabernet Sauvignon vines have been selected for each new generation planted. The Charles Wetmore Vineyard is located in the southern hills of the Livermore Valley between the Arroyo del Valle and the Arroyo Mocho, ranging in elevation from 460ft to 735ft. The site was selected because it demonstrates the ideal well-drained gravelly loam soil of the Livermore Valley similar to the Bordeaux region in France, ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinct character, depth and intensity.

The grapes for the Wente Vineyards Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon are harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks and pumped over twice daily. The wine is aged 14 months in American, French, Eastern European and neutral oak barrels. The 2012 is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 9% Petite Sirah, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Merlot.
