Description

Zohar Malbec is made by the unofficial first lady of Argentinian wine Susana Balbo at her Dominio del Plata winery located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. After many years working for other wineries (including Michael Torina and Catena) Susana was able to realise here dream of owning her own winery when construction began on the Dominio del Plata winery in 1999. After having worked in the wine industray for over 30 years, Susana Balbo is a true icon of Argentinian wine – the first lady to become a winemaker in Argentina, she was also president of Wines of Argentina (WOFA) three times (2006-2008, 2008-2010 and 2014-2016) and assumed the position of Vice President from 2010-2012! Today both her son, Joseph, a winemaker who studied at the University of UC Davis (California) and daughter Ana have joined the family business. The winery, with its modern technology and equipment, in combination with “precision” viticulture and sustainable agriculture produces very high quality wines. Each grape variety is harvested manually and vinified to show the full varietal expression but with unique and individual styles. Zohar Malbec by Susana Balbo is aged for 9 months in 70% French and 30% American oak. Why Zohar? Zohar means splendour, an apt name for this malbec.
