Description

Barbadillo Manzanilla Pasada En Rama De La Pastora is a an aged Manzanilla. It has been aged in solera for 8 years before bottling which produced more complexity, body and adds a hint of oxidation to the wine as the veil of ‘flor’ begins to thin. It is also bottle as “En Rama”. En Rama translates as “raw” meaning the wine has been bottled straight from the cask with no fining or filtration to preserve the body and freshness.

Bodegas Barbadillo are specialists in Manzanilla Sherry. The company’s origins can be traced back to 1821 when Don Benigno Barbadillo and Don Manuel Lopez Barbadillo settled in Sanlucar de Barramada. They would release their first wine the Manzanilla Divina Pastor in 1827. The Bodegas Barbadillo Company was eventually established in 1954. “La Pastor” remains their finest Manzanilla. The company is located in Sanlucar de Barrameda which, along with Jerez and El Puerta de Santa Maria, makes up the “Sherry Triangle”. Sanlucar de Barrameda is a coastal town and the cooling sea breezes impart a slightly, salty tang to their Sherries.

The Pastora or “shepherdess” was resurrected by Barbadillo in 2014. It is a recreation of a Manzanilla that would have been very similar to the style so popular in the 19th century, a Manzanilla Pasada, and with minimal filtration, thus ‘En Rama’. Copies of the original labels no longer exist so the current label is taken from a version embedded in the walls of one of their bodegas (they have 12 bodegas scattered throughout the ancient city). It is thought to be the oldest Manzanilla brand in existence.

Barbadillo Manzanilla Pasada En Rama De La Pastora is a true ‘Pasada’ with its golden hue, pungent yeast, nut, butter, apple and chamomile flavour and is remarkably smooth. Excellent, long finish.

Barbadillo Manzanilla Pasada En Rama De La Pastora is ideal with shellfish, hams, grilled vegetables, tapas, almonds and all things salty.
