Description

Champagne Forget Brimont Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is a Brut (dry) non-vintage Champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from only Grand Cru rated vineyards. Available to buy at Fareham Wine Cellar.

A Family-Owned Champagne House

Champagne Forget-Brimont is a small Champagne producer located in Craon de Ludes. 6th Generation Champenoise Michel Forget is the co-owner and winemaker. The estate can trace its origins back to the early 19th century when Michel’s ancestor, Louis, first planted vineyards in the area. The Champagne Forget-Brimont brand was officially established in 1920 by another relative, Eugène. In 2000, Michel partnered with Frédéric Jorez to ensure Forget-Brimont’s continuation as an independent Champagne House.

A Négociant Manipulant Producer

The company owns 19 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims with Grand Cru vineyards at Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay and Verzy, and Premier Cru vineyards at Chigny-Les-Roses, Ludes, Montbré, Sermiers, Taissy and Villers-Allerand. Pinot Noir is their most planted grape variety. Although Champagne Forget-Brimont owns vineyards, it also buys grapes from other local growers. They are therefore classified as a Négociant Manipulant (NM) producer.

Optimal Cellaring Conditions

Champagne Forget-Brimont’s Cellars are dug out of the chalky soils (that Champagne is famous for) to a depth of 15 metres. This means that the cellars are at a constant temperature of 10.5 C in both summer and winter, the optimum ageing conditions for Champagne, creating fine bubbles and incomparable perlage.

  • Non-vintage Champagnes are a blend of three different vintages of wine (allowing them to maintain a house style) and are aged a minimum of two years before release.
  • Vintage Champagnes are aged between three and ten years before release. This ensures that the Champagnes arrive at perfect maturity for immediate drinking, although they can also be cellared for longer if required.

Champagne Forget Brimont Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Winemaking

  • Vineyards: 100% Chardonnay grapes from some of the best vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, specifically Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger, areas famous for their chalky soils and Chardonnay grape production.
  • Harvesting and Pressing: Grapes are harvested by hand, and bunches are whole-bunch pressed.
  • Fermentation: Alcoholic fermentation conducted at 17°C, followed by malolactic fermentation (MLF) in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
  • Maturation: Aged in Brimont’s traditional chalk cellars for approximately 5 years in cellars with a further period of 6 to 12 months after disgorgement.
  • Reserve Wines: 20–40% reserve wines are blended into the cuvée to ensuring, roundness,  consistency and added complexity.
  • Dosage: Dosage level of 8 g/L.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Pale lemon colour with fine persistent bubbles and a complex, rich nose.

Nose: A wide range of aromas including buttery notes typical of Chardonnay, white flowers (acacia, daisy, honeysuckle) and grapefruit.

Palate: This is a lively, well-balanced wine. The floral, citrus and buttery nuances from the nose follow onto the palate with hints of pâtisserie and roasted notes.

Food Pairing

Ideal with sautéed scallops, poached scampi, truffle risotto and lobster.

For the cheeseboard try with Comte, Le Crottin de Chavignol or Parmesan.

What Is Grand Cru Champagne?

Grand Cru Champagne is produced exclusively from grapes grown in the 17 top-rated Grand Cru villages of Champagne. This is the top classification sitting above the Premier Cru vineyards.

These include Grand Crus in the Montagne de Reims including Verzenay, Verzy, Bouzy, Ambonnay and Mailly that are renowned for Pinot Noir production. Grand Crus in the Cote de Blancs, such as Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oge,r are famous for Chardonnay grapes.

Grand Cru vineyards, classified at 100% on the Échelle des Crus, produce grapes that are considered to be the very best and produce wines with great finesse, complexity and ageing potential.

Grand Cru Champagne vineyards account for less than 9% of the vineyard area in Champagne. Quite a lot of Grand Cru wine goes into luxury and grand cuvées, so wines bottled as Grand Cru are relatively rare.
