Champagne Forget Brimont Vintage 2010 is the house’s current Vintage Champagne release. As a vintage Champagne, this prestige cuvée is made from grapes sourced from 1er and Grand Cru rated vineyards exclusively from the harvest of a single year.
Champagne Forget Brimont is a small Champagne producer located in Craon de Ludes. 6th Generation Champenoise Michel Forget is the current owner and winemaker. The estate can trace its origins back to the early 19th century when his ancestor, Louis, first planted vineyards in the area. The Champagne Forget Brimont brand was established in 1920 by another relative, Eugène. The company owns 15 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims with Grand Cru vineyards at Mailly Champagne and Verzenay, and Premier Cru vineyards at Chigny-Les-Roses, Ludes and Villers-Allerand. Pinot Noir is the most planted grape variety. Although Champagne Forget Brimont own vineyards, they also buy grapes from other local growers, so they are classified as a Négociant Manipulant (NM) producer.
Champagne Forget Brimont’s Cellars are dug out of the chalky soils (that Champagne is famous for) to a depth of 15 metres. This means that the cellars are at a constant temperature of 10.5C in both summer and winter, the optimum ageing conditions for Champagne. The non-vintage Champagnes are blended of three different vintages of wine (allowing them to maintain a house style) and are aged a minimum of two years before release. Brimont’s Vintage Champagnes are aged between three and ten years before release. This ensures that the Champagnes arrive at perfect maturity for immediate drinking, although they can also be cellared for longer if required.
Champagne Forget Brimont Vintage 2010 is a a blend of Têtes de Cuvée (the best wines from the vintage), a perfectly balanced blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from Brimont’s Grand and Premier Cru terroirs on the Montagne de Reims. The grapes are harvested by hand, with whole bunch pressing, alcoholic fermentation at 17˚C followed by malolactic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine undergoes horizontal ageing in Brimont’s traditional chalk cellars for at least 10 years. The wines are left to rest for an additional 6 to 12 months after dosage before release. This vintage Champagne has a unique style that combines complexity, elegance and abundance.
Dosage is 6 g/L
