Champagne Forget-Brimont Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru NV presented in a 1.5 Litre Magnum, which is perfect for serving a crowd and great for cellaring. A Blanc de Blancs is a Champagne made from just white grapes. In Champagne, this means that it is 100% Chardonnay. It is a fresh, elegant and lively style of Champagne, perfect as an aperitif.

A Family-Owned Champagne House

Champagne Forget-Brimont is a small Champagne producer located in Craon de Ludes. 6th Generation Champenoise Michel Forget is the co-owner and winemaker. The estate can trace its origins back to the early 19th century when Michel’s ancestor, Louis, first planted vineyards in the area. The Champagne Forget-Brimont brand was officially established in 1920 by another relative, Eugène. In 2000, Michel partnered with Frédéric Jorez to ensure Forget-Brimont’s continuation as an independent Champagne House.

A Négociant Manipulant Producer

The company owns 19 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims with Grand Cru vineyards at Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay and Verzy, and Premier Cru vineyards at Chigny-Les-Roses, Ludes, Montbré, Sermiers, Taissy and Villers-Allerand. Pinot Noir is their most planted grape variety. Although Champagne Forget-Brimont owns vineyards, it also buys grapes from other local growers. They are therefore classified as a Négociant Manipulant (NM) producer.

Optimal Cellaring Conditions

Champagne Forget-Brimont’s Cellars are dug out of the chalky soils (that Champagne is famous for) to a depth of 15 metres. This means that the cellars are at a constant temperature of 10.5 °C in both summer and winter, the optimum ageing conditions for Champagne, creating fine bubbles and incomparable perlage.

  • Non-vintage Champagnes are a blend of three different vintages of wine (allowing them to maintain a house style) and are aged a minimum of two years before release.
  • Vintage Champagnes are aged between three and ten years before release. This ensures that the Champagnes arrive at perfect maturity for immediate drinking, although they can also be cellared for longer if required.

Champagne Forget Brimont Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru NV Vinification

The grapes for the Champagne Forget Brimont Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru are sourced from some of the finest Chardonnay-producing villages in the region, including Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes, Sermiers, and Mailly. The grapes are manually harvested, followed by whole-bunch pressing, alcoholic fermentation at 17 °C, and malolactic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The Champagne then undergoes a period of ageing in traditional chalk cellars of at least 30 months. The wines are left to rest an additional two months after dosage.

Champagne Forget-Brimont 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay with a dosage (normally) of 9 g/L.

Why Buy Magnums of Champagne?

There are several reasons for buying a magnum of Champagne, but the key ones are:

  1. Serving a large crowd: If you are hosting a larger dinner or party. A magnum of Champagne should pour around 12 to 14 standard glasses of wine.

  3. Best size for ageing: The magnum is considered the best size of bottle for ageing. If you like to age your Champagne for a few years, this is the size to choose. Larger bottles have a smaller air-to-liquid ratio, which slows oxidation and allows the wine to age more gracefully, preserving freshness and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Champagne Forget Brimont Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru NV has a pale yellow colour with light green tints. Fine persistent bubbles.

Nose: There are delicate aromas of white flowers (honeysuckle and hawthorn), white peach, lemon and grapefruit citrus notes.

Palate: The initial impression is lively, fresh and powerful. The flavours reveal nuances of white peaches and citrus. Lovely and round mouthfeel.

Food Pairing

This wine is superb as an aperitif. 

It will complement oysters, scallop carpaccio, sea bass in salt crust and smoked salmon.

For the cheeseboard, try with a mature Comté, Parmesan to try with goats cheese.
