Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2011 Vintage presented in a 1.5 Litre Magnum
Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is the flagship wine of this historic Champagne house. It is the finest example of the Taittinger House style and is always a vintage cuvée. It is made with 100% white grapes from the 5 villages with a Grands Crus classification for the Chardonnay grape (Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger).
Champagne Taittinger can trace its origins back to the original house founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux. However, its links to the Taittinger family started in 1931 when it was purchased by the founder of today’s company, Pierre Taittinger. Today, it remains owned and managed by the Taittinger family and is headed up by Pierre Emmanuel Taittinger. Pierre Emmanuel’s son, Clovis Taittinger and daughter, Vitalie Taittinger, work in the business, making it very much a family affair. The Taittinger headquarters are in Reims, situated above magnificent 4th Century Roman cellars which once belonged to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of St Nicaise. Its miles of tunnels and cellars are perfect for the slow but necessary ageing process of making this great Champagne.
Production Conditions: Produced only when the harvest is of exceptional quality, suitable for vintage Champagne, ensuring the unique style of Comtes de Champagne.
Grape Composition: Made exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from the most renowned vineyards of the Côte des Blancs.
Juice Selection: Utilises only the first pressing (La Cuvée) to guarantee the wine’s finesse.
Oak Ageing: 5% of the blend is aged in fresh oak barrels, creating a delicate balance of toasted notes in the final wine.
Cellar Aging: Minimum ageing of 8 years in the cellars, enhancing complexity and depth.
Dosage: Post-disgorgement dosage of 9g per litre, resulting in a dry-style wine.
Taittinger knows it must be patient with these great Chardonnays, which are the crowning glory of its terroir; Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs remains for up to 10 years in the chalk quarries beneath Saint-Nicaise, before emerging to ignite and delight the palates of wine-lovers.
A magnum of Champagne offers superior ageing potential, allowing for enhanced flavour development due to the larger bottle size, which slows oxidation and preserves freshness. Magnum bottles are an ideal size for a celebration, easily providing enough to pour 12 to 15 glasses, making them good for a large group or dinner party. Magnums also maintain consistent quality, as the wine matures more evenly than in smaller bottles, and their impressive size adds a festive, luxurious touch to any occasion.
Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs has a beautiful golden shimmer through colours of straw yellow and reflections of gold and a fine, delicate mousse that is creamy and captivating. The nose is mature, voluptuous, and fresh yet bright. It exhales delicious notes of gingerbread, liquorice and meringue with delicate white fruit, mandarin peel and a subtle touch of almond pastry. There is also great mineral power: dense and rich with the Chardonnay flexing its iodine character.
Perfect for a special celebration, this champagne is the ideal match for a seafood, shellfish or fish entrée.
