Champagne Dom Perignon is arguably the world’s most prestigious and iconic sparkling wine. As the prestige cuvée of the legendary Moët & Chandon Champagne House, Dom Perignon exemplifies the pinnacle of winemaking excellence and the pursuit of perfection.
The very first vintage was produced as early as the 1920s and 1930s but what we know as Dom Perignon was not made commercially available until 1943 when Moet et Chandon Vintage Champagne was given an extra period of maceration and transferred to the famous 18th century-style bottles, similar to the ones used today. From then on Dom Perignon was always made separately and to a higher quality than Moet’s “normal” vintage.
True to the ambition of Dom Pérignon in the late 17th century, the Chef de Cave demands the exceptional: only an outstanding harvest is worthy of Dom Pérignon vintage Champagne, the exclusive product of a single year. Each new vintage is a unique creative act, reinventing the extraordinary style of a wine that only the Chef de Cave may declare a “vintage year”. “The grapes are never the same from one year to the next. If a harvest does not meet the house’s unyielding standards, there will be no vintage champagne that year.
The wine is a blend of wine made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes sourced from the finest Grands Crus vineyards. These vineyard sites have the best soils and exposure that enable the grapes to fully express their character. The core of the blend is eight historical Grands Crus — Aÿ, Bouzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Le Mesnil — plus the legendary Hautvillers Premier Cru. Dom Pérignon also has the unique privilege of being able to select grapes from all 17 Grands Crus of Champagne.
Champagne Dom Perignon is the epitome of luxury and prestige, making it the perfect choice for the most celebratory of occasions. With its iconic bottle design, complex flavours, and unparalleled quality, Dom Perignon Champagne is a timeless symbol of excellence and the ultimate indulgence for the discerning wine lover.
The name pays homage to the visionary Benedictine monk who is credited with many of the innovations that led to the development of Champagne as we know it today. Dom Perignon (1638-1715) dedicated his life to perfecting wine-making techniques, including the blending of grape varieties and the production of sparkling wines.
From Dom Perignon:
The creation of the 2013 vintage reveals the resonance between the pinots noirs and chardonnays between acidity and fullbodied. The precise elegant and tactile bouquet blooms in an extremely delicate powdery aromatic braid around three nuances: first citrus then a more vegetal facet and lastly spices. This precision reveals a simple and evident elegance where the wine after an ethereal attack amplifies and blossoms before ceding to an ineffable sensation of clarity.
The delicate nose unfolds in swaths of color. The green of eucalyptus mint and vetiver the yellow-orange of mirabelle plums apricot and orange blossom the brown of pepper cardamom and licorice sticks and finally silvery saline and toasty hues. The mouthfeel is elegant expressing luxuriant simplicity and precision. The refined and silky foundation becomes more pronounced at the heart. The finish is dominated by a salinity that leaves a deep sensation of consistency.
