Description

Villa Domiziano Prosecco DOC Treviso Frizzante is an Italian sparkling white wine from the Veneto region.

This wine was formerly known as Villa Domiziano Prosecco Corda Colla. The term “corda” refers to the closure, the bottle is sealed with a normal cork and tied with a “spago”. The term “spago” translates to “string” in English. Instead of a typical champagne-style cork and wire cage, a spago closure involves a simple string tied around the cork to secure it in place. Sometimes it is known as Prosecco Spago. This method of closure is often associated with a more traditional style of Prosecco and adds a touch of old-world charm to the bottle.

Villa Domiziano Prosecco a frizzante wine i.e. it is made in the semi- sparkling style (gentile, pétillant or perlant in France) and not the full spumante style and should be opened with a normal corkscrew. Read more about Frizzante Prosecco here. It is made from 100% Glera grapes harvested from selected hillside vineyards in the Veneto region. The grapes undergo a soft pressing and fermentation at controlled temperature. The wine is made using the Charmat method. Unlike the Champagne or Methode Traditionelle, in this case, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in tank not in the bottle.

Villa Domiziano Prosecco is vegan and vegetarian friendly.

What is Glera?

Glera is a white grape variety of Italian origin, possibly derived from the village of Prosecco itself. Formerly, it was commonly referred to as Prosecco. However, in 2009, the European Union decided to rename it “Glera” to ensure the protection of the name “Prosecco” exclusively for the geographically-protected Italian wine, a large area spanning nine provinces in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions
