Chateau Latour Martillac is one of the most prestigious Bordeaux wine estates of the Pessac Leognan wine growing appellation. Pessac Leognan is an AC that was created in 1987 for the best parts of northern Graves.
A small chateau has existed at Chateau Latour-Martillac since the 12th century. The modern wine history of the chateau really begins with the involvement of the notable German wine trade, Edward Kressmann, who purchased the estate outright in 1929. Eventually the estate went to his descendent, Alfred, followed by Jean, and today the estate is run by brothers Tristan and Loïc.
The estate is located in the commune of Martillac and covers some 57 hectares of vineyard, with 9 hectares dedicated to white wine production. The clay-limestone soil on the eastern slopes of the property, offer good natural drainage with optimum exposure for our white grape varieties, planted 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon with an average age of 35 years old. The vineyards are managed using traditional methods and sustainable vine protection. There is green Harvesting by hand: desuckering, excess bud removal, leaf thinning, removal of excess shoots.
The grapes for the Chateau Latour Martillac white wine are barrel fermented in oak and then undergo a maturation of 15 months on the lees, 11 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new. Annual production, around 37,000 bottles.
Chateau Latour Martillac 2018 Blanc is 54% Sauvignon Blanc and 46% Semillon.
