Chereau Carre Muscadet Sevre & Maine presented in 37.5cl half bottles – a classic Muscadet, clean and steely tasting with a touch of spritz and a bright salinity.
Maison Chéreau Carré is a family-owned winery located in the town of Saint-Fiacre in the Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine sub-appellation. Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine is responsible for over three-quarters of the region’s total output and is renowned for its quality. The Chéreau family has been producing wine in this area for several generations. The company was founded in 1960 and focuses on showcasing the unique terroir of the region, especially in producing crisp, fresh, and mineral-driven Muscadet wines.
The family own four estates totalling some 135 hectares of vines: Château de Chasseloir, Chateau de l’Oiselinière de la Ramée and Domaine du Bois Bruley. Their wines are produced from grapes grown on the finest schistous soils of the appellation, they harvest manually and most of the wines are lees-aged. In order to protect the environment, terroir and to preserve the quality of their wines they follow the principles of “La Lutte Raisonnée”.
Chereau Carre Muscadet Sevre & Maine AOP is a classic Muscadet made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne. The grapes are sourced from vineyards with old volcanic soils, which impart a distinctive minerality to the wine. Traditional white wine vinification took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine was not fermented on its lees and was made in an unoaked style to preserve the purity of the fruit. This cuvée was only racked once before bottling to retain the maximum freshness.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
The Melon de Bourgogne grape variety was introduced to the Nantes region by monks from Burgundy (as the name might suggest!) in the 19th century. Following a harsh winter in 1709 that wiped out much of the local vineyards, winegrowers were compelled to seek a more resilient grape capable of withstanding the harsh cold. This new variety, the result of crossing Pinot Blanc with Gouais Blanc adapted well to the Loire’s climate and would eventually become the foundation for Muscadet wines. It can also be found in North America in Oregon and Washington State.
Chereau Carré Muscadet Sevre & Maine is refreshing and pure, with white fruit and citrus characters combined with a crisp acidity, bright minerality and a lemony hint on the finish.
Great as an aperitif and perfect with shellfish, oyster and seafood. A half bottle of Muscadet is great for two people to go with a starter.
