Louis Jadot Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru is a rare white Burgundy from the tiny Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru vineyard.
The vineyard of Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles is situated to the south of the Côte de Beaune, at the summit of the slope where the communes of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet converge, but on the Puligny commune, just above Le Montrachet. It is a very small vineyard, covering just 1.28 acres.
Louis Jadot and Louis Latour have been equal joint owners of Les Demoiselles since the beginning of the century. The label features the term “Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot”, meaning that the wine comes from a vineyard owned by Louis Jadot (rather than negociants). Louis Jean Baptiste Jadot bought the vineyard in 1913 from two sisters and decided to name it “les demoiselles”. The vineyard had already belonged in the Jadot family, Louis Jean Baptiste Jadot’s grandfather had previously bought it in 1845. The subsoil is extremely chalky with a lot of stones, perfectly drained and easy to overheat with south-south-eastern exposition.
Louis Jadot Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru is produced only with Chardonnay grapes. The precious grapes are harvested by hand and put in small crates in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, and fermented in French oak barrels, a third of which are new, produced by Jadot’s own cooperage. The wine is aged for 15-18 months on fine lees in oak barrels before bottling.
This wine best suits haute cuisine such as crustacés à la nage, poached fish in cream sauce, liver pâtés. Try with grilled and roasted white meats and mature, hard cheeses.
Louis Jadot Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru is characterised by a bright, golden colour and penetrating fragrance of toast and honey predict the rich, mellow fruit flavours, velvety elegance and intense finish of this wine of exceptional grace and breed.
