Domaine Michel Sarrazin Givry Blanc “Sans Nom” is a white wine from the Givry wine-growing appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. White wines from Givry are more unusual in an appellation where Pinot Noir dominates. Sarrazin are one of the most highly regarded producers in the region.

Domaine Michel Sarrazin et Fils is a family-run estate located in Jambles, in the heart of the Bourgogne region, some 30kms to the south of the town of Beaune. The Sarrazin family has been growing grapes in the region since the 17th century, but the estate’s more modern history began in 1964 when Michel Sarrazin took over the running of the estate from his parents and began bottling the estate’s wines under the estate name. Guy and Jean-Yves, his two sons, joined the business in 1986 and 1992 respectively and today have been joined by their sons Pierre and Jean-Baptiste. 

Today the estate covers some 30+ hectares. As well as vineyards in Givry, the estate produces wines from vineyard in Rully, Mercurey, Maranges and also produce a Bourgogne Aligote and Cremant de Bourgogne. The vineyards are cared for sustainably, without the use of herbicides and pesticides. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented using indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled cement tanks (or stainless steel for white wines). The wines are aged in a combination of the oak barrels from renowned cooperage Francois Frères (both old and new barrels) and are then bottlesunfined and unfiltered.

The 100% Chardonnay grapes for the Domaine Michel Sarrazin Givry Blanc “Sans Nom” are sourced from two particular vineyards (or lieu dits), Varot and Chaponnières, which are planted on calcareous soils. It is matured in one third new barrels.

As the wine is a blend of wine from two separate vineyards, the vineyard names cannot be mentioned on the label, hence the wine is known as “Sans Nom” or “without name”.
