Description

Lapostolle Grand Selection Sauvignon Blanc was previously known as Lapostolle Casa Sauvignon Blanc and is now known as Lapostolle Grand Selection Sauvignon Blanc. It remains a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc from the Rapel Valley in the central part of Chile! In fact, the new packaging is great. It is looks very much smarter than before.

Lapostolle was founded by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. Today, Lapostolle owns over 370 hectares of vineyards in three different locations and produces over 200,000 cases of wine per vintage. Lapostolle winery is located in the town of Cunaco, right next to Santa Cruz. It is the original winery, where Lapostolle was founded in 1994 and today it is here where both the Grand Selection range and the Cuvée Alexandre wines are produced. With a traditional Chilean old hacienda style, it has a production capacity of 3,300,000 litres in stainless steel and French oak tanks, and more than 3.500 French Oak Barrels.

Around 50% of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes are sourced from contracted growers in a very special area of Cachapoal (a sub valley of the Rapel Valley) directly beneath the foothills of the Andes. The soil here has many big round pebbles with good drainage and poor fertility which both contribute to the complexity of the wine. The rest of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from Lapostolle’s Las Kuras vineyard. “Kuras” means “stones” in one of the native Chilean languages. The grapes are hand-harvested at night with strict fruit selection. Night harvesting, i.e. at a cooler temperature than daytime which retains the fruit and freshness of the grapes. The wine undergoes a slow, 4 week, cool temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Lapostolle Grand Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is actually a blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc with 15% Sauvignon Gris. Rhe result is a wine that showcases its natural flavors and acidity. Delicate notes of white fruits and rounded mid palate.
