Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret 2022 is produced from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the “Cailleret” vineyard. The Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret vineyard is located at altitudes varying from 250 to 350 m, which benefit from exposures ranging from East to South and Southwest. The Cailleret vineyards lie at the northern end of the commune, bordering the “Les Champs Gains” vineyard.
Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was founded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time the company has acquired plots of vines in some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and many more. Louis Jadot owns or directly controls 120 ha in the Côte d’Or, including over 90 individual vineyard sites, 84ha in the Beaujolais Crus and 18ha in the Mâconnais primarily in Pouilly Fuissé (they own the fantastic Domaine Ferret). Today the business is headed by Pierre-Henry Gagey, son of André Gagey, who was entrusted with the management of Louis Jadot in 1962.
The vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet are situated in the south of the Côte de Beaune and is one of the 5 villages of the prestigious “Côte de Blancs”. Facing east and southeast, white Premier Cru soils are mainly made of brown clay and limestone. The grapes for the Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret 2022 are harvested by hand into small wooden crates to ensure the grapes remain in good condition. The grapes are pressed softly and fermented in oak barrels produced by Louis Jadot’s Cadus cooperage of which 1/3 are new barrels. Ageing usually lasts 15 months on fine lees before bottling.
The name Cailleret comes from the word “Caille” meaning stone.
Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret has aromas of ripe pear and white flowers which mingle with subtle notes of citrus zest and a delicate minerality. The palate is rich and textured, showcasing a balance between vibrant acidity and a core of concentrated fruit. This wine has a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of stone fruit and a hint of oak spice and promises excellent ageing potential.
This wine complements a variety of dishes, from light options like mixed salads, vegetable tempura, sushi, ceviche and salmon tartare.
It also pairs well with vegetarian cuisine such as vegetable tarts, fennel and zucchini fritters, vegetable gratin, wok noodles and vegan burgers.
Other good matches include fish and chips, chicken yakitori, escargots and oeuf en meurette.
For the cheeseboard try with goat’s cheese.
