This range is designed to showcase their very best vineyard estate properties located on rare, coastal California terroir of mountain tops, ridges, hillsides and raised benchland soils demonstrating the character and differences of these extraordinary terroirs/
Kendall Jackson / Jackson Wine Estates International is owned by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke who had a vision to create a global wine company known for its extraordinary premium and luxury wines from many of the greatest wine-growing regions of the world. Indeed, they have since become one of the world’s largest, and high quality, wine companies with interests in Chile, Italy, Australia and France.
The fruit for the Kendall Jackson Camelot Highlands Chardonnay comes from a the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County. The Santa Maria Valley is notable for being the only East / West running valley in the California coast and around 3000 hectares of vines can be found there. It is natural funnel-shaped valley opening west to the Pacific ocean and, as such, there is no barrier to the sea fogs that moves into the valley overnight engulfing the lower vineyards and lingering into mid-day. This cool growing climate has a long growing season with little rainfall which means the grapes have a good, long growing season allowing them to develop full ripeness and flavours on the vine.
The 100% Chardonnay grapes for the Kendall Jackson Camelot Highlands Chardonnay are grown on the hillside above the Santa Maria Bench at an altitude betwen 350 and 450 feet. The soils here composed of sedimentary rock with small rhombohedron pieces of calcium carbonate and limestone. The vines here are 40 years old, Clone 4 Chardonnay on its own rootstock. The wine is aged aged sur lees for 10 months in 100% French oak, 48% new, with medium plus toast.
