Louis Latour Meursault AC is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in the Meursault appellation of Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Situated just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune.
The Latour family have long been established in Burgundy’s wine trade. They began as vine growers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1768 and went on to establish what would become today’s business, Maison Louis Latour in 1797. They are now one of the region’s most famous names creating wines from their own 50 hectare domaine in the Côte d’Or and from grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business. The company remains in family ownership and Eléonore Latour, the 12th generation member of the Latour family, is the first female member of the family to join the business. Eléonore is the vice president and is ably supported by head winemaker Jean Charles Thomas and domaine director Christophe Deola.
The village of Meursault is the most extensive southerly white wine commune of the Cote d’Or. The perfect south-easterly exposure and stony marl soils contribute greatly to the remarkable finesse of which these wines are capable. There are no Grand Crus Meursault but there are several 1er Crus. Meursault has established itself as a benchmark for white Burgundy, with its wines prized for their complexity, balance, and aging potential. Meursault wines are typically rich and smooth, often maturing more quickly than those from the nearby regions of Puligny and Chassagne.
The vineyards that the grapes for the Louis Latour Meursault AC are sourced from have an average age of 25 years old and are situated on marly, limestone soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a traditional vinification with complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged in French oak, medium toasted barrels (15% new) from Louis Latour’s own cooperage for 8 to 10 months.
