Louis Latour Meursault Blagny 1er Cru Chateau de Blagny is a single vineyard exclusively owned by Louis Latour (known as a monopole). Situated just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Meursault is the most extensive southerly white wine commune of the Cote d’Or. There are no Grand Cru wines in Meursault but the quality of the some of the 1er Cru wines is rather good!

The Latour family have long been established in Burgundy’s wine trade. They began as vine growers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1768 and went on to establish today’s business, Maison Louis Latour in 1797. Today they are one of the region’s most famous names creating wines from their own 50 hectare domaine in the Côte d’Or and from grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business. The company has been in family ownership for 11 generations and is now led by the 7th Louis Latour. He is ably supported by head winemaker Jean Charles Thomas and domaine director Christophe Deola. As well as Burgundy, the company also has vineyards in the Var in northern Provence and the Ardeche in the Southern Rhone Valley. 

Chateau de Blagny is located high on the hillside overlooking Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet and is perhaps the most important domaine in the commune. The Louis Latour Meursault Blagny 1er Cru Chateau de Blagny vineyard has an average vine age of 30 year sold and the soils here are stony marl and Jurassic limestone. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo a traditional vinification with complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged in French oak, medium toasted barrels (35% new) from Louis Latour’s own cooperage, in Savigny-Lès-Beaune, for 8 to 10 months.
