Description

Maud Heath Chardonnay is an English Quality Wine made by Maud Heath Vineyard.

The vineyard is located in at Wick Bridge Farm in Wiltshire between the villages of Tytherton and Bremhill overlooking Maud Heath’s Causeway. The causeway is a four and a half mile long raised pathway which was gifted to the region by Maud Heath (died 1474) which would allow the local residents to transport their goods to Chippenham Market without getting their feet wet in the flooded fields around the River Avon.

This small, boutique vineyard is owned by the Bateman family who first began planting vines in 2006. This was soon followed by more planting in 2008 followed by a planting of Pinot Noir in 2011. They now have principally Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir planted as well as some Bacchus and Rondo. There are some 6 hectares of vineyards planted. Maud Heath Chardonnay is made by Litmus wines who are based at Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey under the careful eye of chief winemaker John Worontschak assisted by the internationally experienced French winemaker Matthieu Elzinga.

Maud Heath Chardonnay is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Tasting Notes

Maud Heath Chardonnay has beautiful fresh apricot aromas on the nose. There is a lovely weight of flavour on the palate offering wonderful notes of peach, lychee with complex minerality leading to a lonf, dry, refreshing finish.
