Description

Domaine Rollin Pernand Vergelesses is a a white Burgundy form the Cote de Beaune wine-growing region of Burgundy. The vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are located in a valley next to Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-les-Beaune. The vineyards are planted with both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with just over half of the 135 hectares of village and 1er cru vineyards given over to the red wine variety.

Domaine Rollin, which is now under control of the fourth generation Simon Rollin, consists of 11 hectares of vineyards spread through five different villages or communes (Echevronne, Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny-Lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton) of the Côte de Beaune. They produce wine from 14 appellations. The domaine was founded by Raymond Rollin, a vineyard worker, who managed to acquire several parcels of vines including a desirable parcel of Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru Ile des Vergelesses. In 1955 Raymond’s son Maurice started his own business and began producing and selling the family’s own wines. Simon’s father Remi began working in the business in 1976 and was responsible for planting many new vineyards and expansion throughout the 1980s and 90s. Simon joined the business in 2003 and was joined by his wife Caroline in 2009.

Domaine Rollin Pernand Vergelesses AC is made from grapes sourced from various hillside vineyard sites within the appellation. The soils are clay-limestone, shallow and lying on white limestone marls. For the most part, they are east-facing. Most of the grapes are harvested by hands. The grapes are slowly pressed and, after a light settling, the must is fermented naturally in oak barrels, 10% of which are new. Depending on the vintage there may or may not be lees stirring. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 10 to 12 months on the lees prior to racking, blending and bottling.
