Description

Trapiche Estacion 1883 Torrontes is an Argentinian white wine made from grapes sourced from the Mendoza wine growning region.

Trapiche are one of the largest, oldest and most prestigious wineries in Argentina and it was founded in 1883 next to a train station (estacion is Spanish for station). The Trapiche Estacion range of wines commemorates this. This allowed barrels of wine to be easily loaded onto the railway wagons and gave Trapiche an extra advantage in getting their wines to market and onward to ports for export. Under the stewardship of the current winemaker, Daniel Pi, Trapiche has won the IWSC Argentine Wine Producer of the Year year 4 times since its inception in 2004.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Cafayate, Salta, located at 1750m above sea level. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo bunch selection and destemming. The grapes are chilled down to 12C and are allowed to macerate for 2 hours at 6 to 8C before pnuematic pressing. The wine then undergoes temperature controlled fermentation at 15C. Finally the wine is aged sur lie for 6 months. Trapiche Estacion 1883 Torrontes is actually a blend of 95% Torrontes and 5% Sauvignon Blanc.
