Guantanamera Cristales are somewhat of a rarity: a machine-made Cuban cigar. Lighter in style, they are crafted from 100% Cuban short-filler tobacco grown in the lesser-known Vuelta Arriba region, delivering the natural, earthy aroma of authentic Cuban soil without overwhelming strength.
Guantanamera was the first new Cuban cigar brand of the 21st century, launched in 2002 and inspired by the island’s music and fiestas – fittingly taking its name from the famous Cuban song composed by Joseíto Fernández. All three sizes in the Guantanamera range (the others are the Minutos and Puritos) are machine-made, making them the only machine-made (mecanizado) Cuban cigars apart from the Cuban minis and shorts.
At 5⅞ inches (150mm) with a 41 ring gauge, the Cristales is a lengthy cigar that can be categorised as a Long Corona. The flavour profile is delightfully subtle, opening with gentle hints of sweet honey, fresh grass, and light spice, and finishing smooth and creamy.
It’s perfect for a beginner or anyone who enjoys a very mild, light-bodied smoke. A very affordable Cuban cigar, it’s ideal for weddings or for a crowd; each cigar offers roughly 40 to 45 minutes of smoking pleasure.

It opens with soft cedar wood, light cream, and a hint of green tea, progressing to notes of toasted grains, roasted peanuts and a delicate honey sweetness, finishing with dry oak and a faint touch of coffee bean. This is a lighter cigar, so it is best to avoid overpowering spirits. Try it with a soft and mellow aged Cuban Rum or an Irish Whiskey like Clonakilty Double Oak.
A morning coffee or a creamy café con leche is an ideal match, complementing the cigar’s gentle sweetness and roasted notes without overwhelming the palate.
If you prefer something cold, a light lager, mild wheat beer or a white wine works well, as the crispness refreshes the palate while letting the cigar’s subtle flavours come through.
