Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2009 Pauillac 1er Cru Classé presented in 75cl bottles.
A First Classified Growth, Château Mouton Rothschild spans 82 hectares (202 acres) of vines at Pauillac in the Médoc, planted with the classic varieties of the region. The estate benefits from exceptionally favourable natural conditions, in the quality of the soil, the position of its vines and their exposure to the sun. Combining respect for tradition with the latest technology, it receives meticulous attention from grape to bottle.
The estate was brought to the pinnacle by two exceptional people, Baron Philippe de Rothschild and then his daughter Baroness Philippine. Her three children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, true to their grandfather’s and mother’s work, are now committed with the same enthusiasm and determination to perpetuating this quest for excellence.
In a unique fusion of wine and art, each vintage since 1945 has been graced with an original label designed by a leading contemporary artist, transforming each bottle into a collector’s piece. The 2009 label was designed by Anish Kapoor.
The 2009 vintage is celebrated as a remarkable year in Bordeaux, and Mouton Rothschild’s rendition is a prime example. Ideal growing conditions led to perfectly ripened grapes, resulting in a wine of exceptional concentration and complexity. It’s primarily a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, exhibiting intense fruit flavours and complex aromas. The 2009 Chateau Mouton Rothschild is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot.
The Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 presents an intensely aromatic profile, bursting with crème de cassis, ripe blackberries, and dark cherries, interwoven with sophisticated layers of cedar, graphite, and subtle spice. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and opulent, delivering concentrated dark fruit flavors, licorice, espresso roast, and dark chocolate, all framed by powerful yet seamlessly integrated tannins. The finish is exceptionally long and complex, leaving a lasting impression of balance and elegance, showcasing a harmonious interplay of powerful fruit, refined structure, and intricate aromatic nuances, exemplifying the potential of a truly great Bordeaux vintage.
The powerful and complex Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 demands equally rich and flavorful pairings. Classic matches include roasted or grilled prime cuts of beef, particularly filet mignon or ribeye, as well as lamb dishes like rack of lamb with rosemary. The wine’s intense fruit and structured tannins also complement game meats such as venison or pheasant, and hearty dishes featuring truffles or wild mushrooms. For a decadent finish, consider pairing it with dark chocolate desserts or strong, aged cheeses like Comté or aged Gouda, allowing the wine’s nuanced flavours to truly shine.
