Louis Guntrum Pinot Noir is a German red wine from the Rheinhessen wine-growing region. Although Germany is mainly known for its white wines, it is increasingly producing quality Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) wines.
The Louis Guntrum Estate was established in 1648. However, it was in 1909 that Louis Guntrum returned to the left bank of the Rhein River and settled in Nierstein. Today, the estate is in the hands of the 11th generation of the Guntrum family, Konstantin Guntrum and his wife Stephanie, since 2003 and includes some of the best vineyard sites in Nierstein and Oppenheim.
The estate benefits from the region’s unique microclimate. The diverse terroir and vineyards boast a combination of nutrient-rich soils, gentle slopes, and abundant sunshine, creating an ideal environment for cultivating exceptional grapes. Louis Guntrum specialises in the production of Riesling, but they also produce Gewurztraminer, Dornfelder, Pinot Noir and Sekt, among others and the wines are exported to over 50 countries.
The vineyards for this Louis Guntrum Pinot Noir sit atop a hilly landscape with heavy loam and clay soils that offer excellent absorptive capacity for rainwater, supporting sustainable farming and grape growing through the exclusive use of organic fertilizers and no irrigation; reduced pruning, defoliation, and green harvest further enhance quality, while the very limited and strictly monitored use of fertilizers and chemicals ensures minimal environmental impact.
Louis Guntrum Pinot Noir has a ruby red colour, beautiful play of colours, cherry and raspberry-like flavours and aromas, a hint of oak from the barrique barrel ageing, well-balanced, soft acidity and ripe finish.
Perfect with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or soft cheeses. Its bright acidity cuts through richness while complementing earthy flavours.
