Torbreck The Steading 37.5cl Half Bottle offers the iconic Barossa Valley GSM blend in a convenient smaller format. Made from old-vine Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, this Southern Rhône-inspired Australian red delivers generous layers of dark cherry, dried herbs, lavender and warm earth. This 37.5cl half bottle of wine is ideal for intimate dinners, mid-week drinking, or enjoying a premium Australian wine without opening a full 75cl bottle.
Torbreck The Steading is a classic Barossa blend comprising 53% Grenache, 28% Shiraz, and 19% Mataro. The fruit is hand-harvested from ancient, low-yielding bush vines planted on ungrafted pre-phylloxera rootstocks – rare survivors of the government-sponsored vine-pull scheme of the 1980s. To capture the full diversity of the Barossa Valley, parcels are selected from prime sub-districts including Gomersal, Lyndoch, Greenock, Moppa, Marananga, Seppeltsfield and Ebenezer.
A 37.5cl / 375ml half bottle contains approximately two generous glasses of wine, making it a useful format for smaller meals, solo drinking or occasions when you don’t want to open a full 75cl bottle. It also provides an affordable way to explore premium and fine wines that may otherwise be sold only in larger formats.
Founded in 1994 by David Powell at Marananga on the Barossa Valley’s western ridge, Torbreck Vintners is named after a Scottish forest near Inverness. Its roots trace back to 1992, when Powell began restoring neglected plots of old, dry-grown vines. The debut 1995 vintage arrived in 1997; today, the estate is owned by Pete Knight and led by chief winemaker Ian Hongell.
Inspired by the Rhône Valley, Torbreck crafts red blends from Shiraz, Grenache, and Mataro alongside whites like Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne. The estate relies almost exclusively on hand-tended, dry-farmed bush vines aged between 80 and 125 years.
Nose: Lifted, expressive aromas of ripe wild raspberry, plum, and lavender, backed by hints of star anise, crushed herbs, and dark spice.
Palate: Silky, supple, and medium-to-full-bodied. Vibrant red fruit flavours of cherry and blackberry melt into savoury earthiness, dark chocolate, and fine, mineral tannins.
Finish: Long, warming, and harmoniously balanced with lingering spice.
Try this wine with roast leg of lamb with rosemary, grilled venison, duck breast, rich mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses like Comté and Gouda.
The 37.5cl half-bottle format makes this an exceptional companion for dinner. Serve slightly below room temperature (around 14 to 16°C).
