Description

Maison Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres (75cl)

Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres is easily one of Louis Latour’s most popular—and consistently best-value—white Burgundies. Delivering exceptional quality without the eye-watering price tag of its northern neighbours, this full-sized 75cl bottle is a classic staple for any lover of crisp, elegant Chardonnay.

(Prefer a smaller format? It is also available to buy in half bottles (37.5cl).)

Traditional Vinification

To capture the true expression of the Lugny terroir, Maison Louis Latour crafts this wine using traditional, hands-off winemaking methods:

  • 100% Chardonnay harvested at peak ripeness.

  • Fermentation takes place entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to preserve bright fruit purity and freshness.

  • The wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation, imparting a smooth, rounded mouthfeel to balance the natural citrus acidity.

  • Rested for 8 to 10 months in stainless steel before bottling.

Premium Mâconnais & Les Genièvres Vineyards

The Mâconnais is Burgundy’s southernmost white wine district, situated west of the Saône River. Renowned for its sun-drenched vineyards and rolling limestone hills, the region produces fantastic-value whites, from Mâcon-Villages to prestigious appellations like St-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé.

The 100% Chardonnay grapes for this cuvée are rigorously selected from the sun-drenched commune of Lugny. Thirty years ago, Lugny was the only village in the area exclusively planted with Chardonnay—a testament to its superb clay and limestone soils. Today, Lugny remains widely regarded as one of the finest vineyard sites in the entire Southern Burgundy area.

Curious about the name? Les Genièvres takes its name from Genièvre, the French word for the Common Juniper, which grows wild around the vineyard slopes.

Maison Louis Latour: Eleven Generations of Excellence

The Latour family has been an anchor of the Burgundy wine trade since 1768, when they first began tending vines in Aloxe-Corton. Formally founding Maison Louis Latour in 1797, today they stand as one of Burgundy’s most revered négociants and estate owners. Steadfastly family-owned for 11 generations, they even operate their own traditional cooperage, producing over 2,000 oak barrels each year.

Whether you’re shopping online for home delivery via Fareham Wine Cellar or dropping into our Hampshire shop to pick up a few bottles, this Mâcon-Lugny is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A lovely, bright pale-gold colour with brilliant clarity.

Nose: Fresh, floral, and expressive. Aromas of crisp green apple, white peach, and lemon curd lead the way, underpinned by subtle blossom notes, soft brioche, and a touch of stony minerality.

Palate: Medium-bodied and delightfully approachable. Thanks to 100% malolactic fermentation, it boasts a smooth, rounded mouthfeel and a gentle, buttery texture, perfectly balanced by vibrant citrus acidity for a clean, refreshing finish.

Food Pairing

Seafood: Pan-seared sea bass, grilled king prawns, or classic moules marinières.

Poultry: Roast chicken with lemon and herbs, or a creamy chicken pie.

Vegetarian: Creamy asparagus risotto or a goat’s cheese tart.

Cheese: Comté, Gruyère, or fresh goat’s cheese.
