Domaine Ferret Pouilly Fuisse is a white wine from the Maconnais wine-growing region. It is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from the estate’s vineyards in the beautiful, natural amphitheatre surrounding the village of Fuissé. Pouilly Fuisse is the southernmost appellation of Burgundy.
Domaine J A Ferret is located in the heart of the village of Fuissé itself and can trace its history back to its foundation in 1840, long before the official creation of the Pouilly Fuisse AOC, in 1936. Jeanne Ferret was responsible for establishing their Tete de Cru and Hors Classes wines, single parcel wines from the best vineyard sites, that the domain has become renowned for. Indeed, the Ferret has been instrumental in raising the profile of wines from the appellation. After World War II, Ferret was also responsible for moving from bulk wine production to bottling the wines at the Domaine, at a time when it was not the done thing.
Domaine Ferret was owned by the Ferret family until 2008 when the estate was acquired by the famous Burgundy producer, Maison Louis Jadot. The estate comprises 44 acres throughout the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. 35 of these are located in the amphitheatre of hills surrounding the town of Fuissé and 9 are near the Roche de Vergisson, in the north of the appellation. The winery practices sustainable viticulture, focusing on soil health and biodiversity. The current winemaker is Clement Robinet, the first male winemaker in the estate’s history.
Domaine Ferret Pouilly Fuisse is a blend of wines produced from only the best parcels of vines from the Fuissé amphitheatre. The vines are aged from 10 to 35 years old and are planted on soils predominantly composed of limestone and clay. Each parcel was vinified separately to ensure the finest expression of the fruit. Half the wine was fermented in enamelled tanks and half in two to four-year-old oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 10 months on lees in used French oak barrels from Tronçais, Vosges and Nevers.
Domaine Ferret Pouilly Fuisse is suitable for vegetarians.
