Bergamot Oranges are grown mainly in Calabria in Italy and it is probably most famous as the citrus-y flavouring in Earl Grey tea. The fruit is not generally grown for consumption as it is somewhat acidic and bitter. However, it can be used to make marmalades, confit etc., production of which involves the addition of large amounts of sugar. The main usage is the extraction of bergamot oil from the fruit’s rind.
Briottet Creme de Bergamote is a versatile ingredient for creating a wide range of cocktails and desserts. Available at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Briottet Crème de Bergamote boasts a pale golden hue and a vibrant, citrus-driven profile. Its nose offers fresh bergamot zest with lemony, Earl Grey-like aromas and subtle floral spice. On the palate, it balances zesty, tart bergamot with creamy sweetness, revealing hints of white pepper and honeyed citrus. The finish is crisp and lingering, with candied zest and a smooth, spicy aftertaste.
