Description

Domaines Ott Chateau Romassan Rosé is an AOC Bandol. The wine-growing region of Bandol is located at the foot of the village of Le Castellet in the heart of the appellation. Bandol is situated in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in South Eastern France ,and rosé wines from Bandol are thought to be some of the very best the Provence offers.

Domaines Ott, Established 1912

Domaines Ott was established in 1912 by Marcel Ott, an Alsacien who dreamed of creating a great wine estate by the Mediterranean. The estate continued to be family-owned until it was bought out by Champagne Louis Roederer in 2004. Domaines Ott consists of three different estates in the Bandol and Cotes de Provence ACs and produces some of the most prestigious wines in the world. However, it is for their Rosé that the estate is arguably most famous for.

Chateau Romassan in Bandol

Today, the estate is represented by Christian and Francois Ott and comprises Chateau de Selle and Clos Mireille in the Côtes de Provence appellation and Chateau Romassan in Bandol. The Ott family acquired Chateau Romassan in 1956. The estate was replanted with noble grape varieties, its small plots were reorganised and levelled to create terraced vineyards. The superb 18th-century building overlooking the vineyard was also completely renovated.

Mourvedre is the key grape variety grown here, with Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grown in smaller quantities. Their estate consists of 74 hectares with an average vine age of 25 years. The soils here are chalk, sandstone and marl underlain with gravel. This singular land with its sun-drenched and particularly dry microclimate produces sophisticated and very powerful wines.
