Cohiba Siglo VI Tubos. A Siglo VI presented in an individual, cedar-lined aluminium tube.
Cohiba Siglo VI cigars are a modern Cohiba classic. The vitola for these cigars is called “Canonazo” and the cigar measures in at a serious 5 7/8 inches long with a ring gauge of 52. This medium-bodied cigar is part of Cohiba’s La Linea 1492 and was first launched in 2002 to celebrate 10 years of the Siglo range – it was then the widest Cohiba Siglo in production. Today it shares a ring gauge with the shorter, Medio Siglo.
Cohiba is the flagship Cuban Cigar brand of Habanos S.A. and was created in 1966. It was formally launched in 1968, for President Fidel Castro, and the cigars were made at the then top secret, now world famous, El Laguito factory (today some of the cigars are now made at the Partagas factory). Originally Cohiba Cigars were only ever for the use of high-ranking government officials and for giving away as gifts to heads of state and visiting diplomats. The Cohiba Cigar brand was first launched outside of Cuba at the 1982 Football World Cup in Spain. The name comes from the ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba – the earliest known form of a Habano.
The tobacco leaves for Cohiba Cigars are the “selection of the selection” from the five finest plantations in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone. Uniquely amongst Havanas, up to three of Cohiba’s filler leaves, the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an extra fermentation in barrels, which adds smoothness to the blend. All Cohiba sizes are ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’, – long filler, totally handmade.
The Cohiba Siglo VI is a well-balanced cigar. The initial draw presents an elegant combination of cedar and leather, accompanied by a subtle spiciness that adds depth. As the smoke progresses, notes of roasted nuts and dark chocolate emerge, providing a delightful sweetness that balances the earthy undertones. A cigar that is very highly regarded among aficionados.
Smoking time is around 1 hour.
